Drei Geschichten

In the exhibition Three Stories, artist duo Michael Meier & Christoph Franz reconstruct a complex web of properties, legacies, and family stories, examining the effect they have on the built environment and the townscape, based on the example of the Swiss municipality of Teufen. Their artistic exploration takes place on three levels: as a multimedia experience in the museum space, as a historical analysis in the publication, and as site-specific engagement with the community's three rivers. These rivers acted as a key driver of industrialization, with hydropower making a significant contribution to the prosperity and development of the region as a center of the textile industry. This intricate weave of different layers reveals the deep connection between history, culture, and the environment and enables us to grasp the closely knit narratives of the Teufen community.

Das Künstlerduo Michael Meier & Christoph Franz rekonstruiert in der Ausstellung Drei Geschichten ein komplexes Geflecht aus Grundstücken, Erbschaften und Familiengeschichten. An der schweizerischen Gemeinde Teufen zeigen sie exemplarisch, wie sich diese Themen auf Baukultur und Ortsbild auswirken. Ihre künstlerische Auseinandersetzung geschieht auf drei Ebenen: multimedial im Raum, historisch in einer Publikation und ortsspezifisch in drei Flüssen der Gemeinde. Letztere spielten eine zentrale Rolle als treibende Kraft der Industrialisierung, da die Wasserkraft maßgeblich zum Wohlstand und zur Entwicklung der Region als Standort der Textilindustrie beigetragen hat. Diese Vielschichtigkeit ermöglicht es, die tiefe Verbindung zwischen Geschichte, Kultur und Umwelt zu entdecken und die miteinander verwobenen Erzählungen der Gemeinde Teufen zu begreifen.
