This book describes the tragedy of a border society that had no place inside the boundaries of a nation-state after 1945. The story takes place in Gdask-Pomerania, which was a difficult homeland. The book presents the fate of Pomeranians and the residents of Gdask who had to prove their national usefulness before they joined the post-war life.

Sylwia Bykowska holds a PhD in Humanities. In her scientific work, she deals with history of Polish People's Republic, population changes in Gdańsk after 1945 and the development of a new city society, ethnic issues in the so-called Recovered Territories, and history of Gdańsk and Pomerania in the 20th century.
