She is the author of Black Faces, Black Interests: The Representation of African Americans in Congress (Harvard University Press, 1993, 1995), which was selected by Library Choice Journal as one of the seven outstanding academic books of 1994. Black Faces was also the winner of the 1994 Woodrow Wilson prize.
