Hans Joachim Schellnhuber has been Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) since its foundation in 1992. He is Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change and was appointed Chief Government Advisor on Climate and Related Issues by the German Federal Government for the G8 and EU presidencies in 2007. As a member of the High Level Expert Group he also advises the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso. From 2001 to 2005 he was engaged as Research Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and Professor at the Environmental Sciences School of the University of East Anglia in Norwich (UK). He is elected Member inter alia of the German and US National Academy of Sciences and the Max Planck Society. In 2004 he was awarded the title "Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire" (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II and in 2007 he received the German Environment Prize. Nicholas Stern, is IG Patel Professor of Economics and Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science and Chairman of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. Lord Stern was head of the UK Government Economic Service from 2003-2007 and Chief Economist of the World Bank from 2000-2003. He authored the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change (Cambridge University Press, 2006), reporting to the UK Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2005-2007. Lord Stern is an adviser to the Global Chair of HSBC on Economic Development and Climate Change and is the 2009 President of the European Economic Association. He was knighted for services to economics in 2004 and made a cross-bench life peer as Baron Stern of Brentford in 2007. Veronika Huber is scientific personal assistant to Hans Joachim Schellnhuber. Previously, she undertook scientific research in the areas of limnology and theoretical ecology at the Institute for Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) and at Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) and gained experience in the field of climate policy during an internship at the United Nation Environmental Program in Nairobi. She studied biology and ecology at Ecole normale superieure in Paris and at the universities of Konstanz and Potsdam. Susanne Kadner has a research background in biology, chemistry and oceanography. She has worked for the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) in London, the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), and as G8-consultant for Hans Joachim Schellnhuber in his position as German Chief Government Advisor on Climate and Related Issues. Susanne now works in the Technical Support Unit of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Working Group III.
