Waqf im mongolischen Iran

Den Ausgangspunkt der vorliegenden Studie bildet ein einzelnes, mit nahezu vierhundert Folioseiten recht voluminöses Dokument: die Stiftungsurkunde Rasiduddin Fazlullah-i Hamadanis (ca. 1248-1318) für das Rab-i Rasidi, einen Komplex religiöser und karitativer Einrichtungen in Tabriz. Wir haben es mit einer sehr alten und umfangreichen Originalurkunde aus der Feder einer prominenten historischen Persönlichkeit zu tun, die sich nicht nur als spannendes Selbstzeugnis dieses Individuums erweist, sondern vor unseren Augen ein facettenreiches Bild einer ökonomisch wie kulturell bedeutenden Institution entstehen läßt und uns darüber hinaus exemplarisch veranschaulicht, welche Art von Macht ein Vertreter der einheimischen Bürokratie den mongolischen Herren entgegenzusetzen hatte. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, den mannigfaltigen Aspekten dieses Dokuments interpretatorisch gerecht zu werden, was auch methodische Vielseitigkeit erzwang. Birgitt Hoffmann holds the chair of Iranian Studies at the University of Bamberg in Germany since 2005. Earlier, she taught as a professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Bonn. She has worked on historical sources of 17th to 19th-century Iran (edition and commentary of the chronicle of Rustam al-Hukama, 1986) and on the institution of religious foundations (vaqf) in 13th to 14th-century Mongol Iran (monograph on the foundation of the Ilkhanid vizier Rashid ad-Din in Tabriz, 2000).
